What will be the 2010 opportunities? Check out Forbes.com for opinions more educated than mine:

Top 5 that we will here the most about in 2010:

1. Cloud computing - If this can prove to be an economical answer to small business needs I think we’ll keep hearing this term. If cloud computing actually does become similar to the utility model (think the Bell Phone system before the government broke up Bell) then this has the potential to really explode out of the gate. I’m not sure the application of the concept is there yet but the potential sure it. Will it be economical? Think Tesla on this one -

2. Fraud prevention and security - The more sophisticated we get the better the people who want to bear the system to defraud get. I think we’ve lost some ground and we were behind in ’09. If we could apply the skills of the people who figure out how to defraud us to make out technology better we’d probably be better off. Companies are too enamored with the next big thing - they’re forgetting the basics and leaving doors open.

3. Green technology - I think it’s obvious, not only do corporation look good going “green” it saves money. Even if you’re not a hippie tree hugger like me, come on folks - save the company money and look like a leader. Corporations needs some good PR we’re going to keep hearing this even if we don’t see much action.

4. Financial compliance - Rumblings will continue on The Street and in Congress. McCain is talking up bringing back the old regulations. That’s not going to happen but rules somewhere are going to change. I would rather see the financial institutions come up with it in concert with SEC, NASD etc. but that’s probably a long shot. Study up on compliance and regulation.

5. Maybe this is just a wish but I hope we stop hearing so much about high volume trading. My personal opinion is that if you’ve got to make it on volume, sooner or later it’s like a snowball - it’s not going to be worth paying for the coding. I’m going to bet this one’s a BUBBLE - let’s see what happens.
