Back in 2009 when IT companies were trying to brave the effects of recession in the US, graduate hiring in India came across a speed breaker. IT companies have been the biggest employers for engineering graduates who were being hired in bulk up until the recession effects were being felt. Come 2009, those hired weren’t sent their joining letters and students passing out in 2009-2010 found it difficult to get employment.
Based on news coming from the various IT companies, they are back to hiring from campuses. Here’s a list of what the hiring plans for some of the IT companies are:
Infosys
20,000 graduates from approximately 1,100 colleges have been sent joining letters. Infosys seems to have revised their hiring guidance from 36,000 to 40,000 for the second quarter of 2010-2011. At starting salary ranging from 3.1 to 3.5 lacs INR. According to a research, the attrition rate at Infosys has gone down.
TCS
Like Infosys, TCS also revised their hiring target from 30,000 to 50,000 individuals. In a separate news story, TCS is planning to hire Computer Science PhD students from IITs without interviewing them. S Ramadorai, TCS CEO and Manageing Director says this move will encourage students to opt for the PhD program.
Astonishing numbers of over 1,000 students being hired from the SRM University in Chennai (1,091) and 1,359 from the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) University in Tamil Nadu.
Wipro
Girish Paranjpe of Wipro during an interview said that Wipro plans to hire 7,500 fresh graduates from campuses. These would include both engineering and non engineering students. Along with new hires, current employees might see salary rise.
Cognizant and Accenture
The other two notable names have both hired more than 1,000 students each. From Amity University in Noida, Accenture has offered jobs to 1,309 students while Cognizant went for 1,643 students at the Vellore Institute of Technology.
