Bengaluru, India – In a major milestone for India's defence sector, the country has unveiled a full-scale engineering model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Aero India 2025. Displayed at the India Pavilion, this marks the first public showcase of the indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, reinforcing India's commitment to self-reliance in advanced defence technology.
AMCA: India’s Next-Generation Stealth Fighter
Developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the AMCA is a twin-engine, multi-role stealth fighter designed for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Weighing 25 tons, it ranks among the most sophisticated fighter jets in its category, incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as:
- AI-Powered Electronic Pilot – Enhances situational awareness and assists in complex combat scenarios.
- Netcentric Warfare Systems – Enables real-time combat coordination.
- Internal Weapon Bay – Enhances stealth capabilities.
- Integrated Vehicle Health Management – Ensures predictive maintenance for optimal performance.
The Role of AI in AMCA’s Development
One of AMCA’s most notable advancements is its deep integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The AI-powered Electronic Pilot will:
- Identify threats automatically.
- Assist pilots in advanced combat situations.
- Seamlessly coordinate with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
These enhancements place the AMCA among the leading fifth-generation fighters globally, boosting India's air combat capabilities.
Aero India 2025: US Participation & Global Collaboration
Aero India 2025 has drawn significant international participation, with the United States showcasing a range of advanced aircraft and defence technologies. Over two dozen American companies are engaging with Indian counterparts to explore collaborations in aviation and defence.
Leading the high-level US delegation at the event are:
- Jorgan Andrews, US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires.
- General Kevin Schneider, Commander of the US Pacific Air Forces.
Since Aero India 2023, US-India defence ties have strengthened through expanded trade, technology innovation, and cooperation in cybersecurity, logistics, and maritime security.
General Schneider highlighted the significance of Aero India, stating, "This event is an ideal forum to showcase US defence aircraft and equipment and contribute towards greater compatibility and interoperability with partner nations."
Showcase of US Military Might
Attendees at Aero India 2025 can witness an impressive display of US defence technology, including:
- F-16 and F-35 fighter jets
- KC-135 Stratotanker
- B-1 bomber
Adding a cultural touch, the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific, featuring its 10-member ensemble "Final Approach", will perform live on February 13 and 14 at Aero India 2025, along with a special show at Christ University, Bengaluru.
